“Speed is useless if there’s no direction, you come crashing down so fast, your head will spin and trust me, that’s a big headache.” These were the words of Babami to Kunle. Kunle wants to be the next big shot in tech. He can’t wait to transition to tech and implement his big ideas. He wants to start now. Are you like Kunle who is just starting in tech and can’t wait to become a pro in the niche you’ve chosen? There’s a rush in every individual to be the next big thing immediately they start up something and while that is good, you need to calm down. Hold your horses. There is a process for everything.
Let’s get right into it:
Keep Learning/Research: Learning is a continuous activity, there’s always something to learn in your chosen niche. Fill your repertoire with enough information that you can draw from any time. "There are constantly new talents to master and approaches to embrace," says growth marketer A.J. Agrawal. "The world's most successful people recognize that they must continue to study to be successful. We must constantly seek methods to grow if we want to live life to the fullest." Constant learning and research is one sure way of becoming a tech pro. Learning changes everything, it gives a new perspective to things.
Develop Soft skills: Soft skills are just as important as tech skills. Most times we are so focused on our activities, we lose our human relations skills. Soft skills refer to your emotional intelligence and include your human, interpersonal, and social skills. They include Communication, adaptability, teamwork, emotional intelligence, etc. Soft skills are very valuable and help build relationships.
Be accountable: There’s no way you can be regarded as a tech pro if you are not accountable. Accountability is a leadership trait. It requires taking responsibility for your actions, decisions, and errors. It's also the ability to follow through on commitments established inside an organization and among its members. So, do you follow through on your tasks? Being accountable is not easy. It is a valuable skill. Accountability fosters a more productive work environment.
Network: You must have heard this constantly “Your network is your net worth”. No lies detected. This has been proven over and over. Do you belong in any tech community? Oh, you don’t? You might need to reconsider that. Networking is one proven way to help you become a tech pro. It opens you to various aspects of tech, especially your chosen niche. You are probably in a community right now and you’re not an active participant, you might want to reconsider that. Networking and keeping up with your community will help your growth in becoming a tech pro immensely.
Pitch your skill: Say this: “I’ll pitch my skill” “I’ll put myself out there”. Sounds funny? Trust me, you must do this. Putting yourself out there will help you in your chosen tech career because this will help people know you, commend and critique your work. All these are the ingredients necessary to make you a tech pro. A tech pro is a seasoned individual in the tech industry who has gone through a series of commendations and criticism. This can only be possible when you put yourself out there.
Becoming a tech pro is achievable when you follow these procedures. Remember, you have to trust the process.
