I keep seeing people backing out of tech because they don’t want to code. Someone on my WhatsApp list wrote on his status that he’s not buying into tech skills because he doesn’t want to spend hours coding and end up wearing glasses. Well, you don’t have to be a natural coder to work in the tech industry. Try out any of these skills. They are just as significant as coding.
UI/UX design: Have you seen a website or software with beautiful or seamless interaction? That’s UI/UX (User interface and User experience). It is important to know that the User Interface designer is different from the User Experience designer. The UI designer designs the layout of a website or software, the aesthetics while the UX designer focuses on the functionality and usability of the website and software. They are different but they work hand in hand to ensure a good user experience.
Technical Writing: You love to write? Writing flourishes in tech as well. Technical writing simplifies digital skills or products. It’s writing from the readers’ angle. Technical writing is constant learning, keeping up to date with skills, products in order to provide detailed information to help the users understand said skills or products. Technical writings could be in form of emails, briefs, press releases or technical reports.
Product Design: Product designers work with the user experience. They implement the user needs with the business goals to ensure the brand creates products that will do well in the market. The goal is to make products that are sustainable. Product design is not just about creating and testing the product but also envisioning a roadmap for the product. Is it sustainable? Product designers bridge the gap between users expectations and brand business goals. A product designer is not just a designer but also understands business.
Software Testing: Software goes through a series of tests before it is put out. A programmer worst nightmares are bugs, software testing helps find out bugs or any other error in the software so it can be solved before delivery of the software product. You don’t have to be a coder to test software. Software is tested for its functionality, scalability, features and speed.
As opposed to required specifications, the software testing goal is to find mistakes, gaps, and missing requirements. A well-tested software product provides dependability, security, and excellent performance, which saves time, money, and improves customer satisfaction.
Project Management: You don’t need codes for project management. All you need is the ability to handle projects and ensure they are executed within the estimated timeline. Project management ensures the project is on track. This entails the usual project management procedure: planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and project closing. For tech, project managers see to the planning, creation of the software, implementing it, monitoring, controlling and more importantly updating. All of these determines the lifecycle of software development.
Data Analyst: Decisions can’t be made without data. The more we keep evolving, the more data there will be to analyze. These data are instrumental to business and decision making. Data are an integral part of the tech industry. Data analysis is as simple as going through the data to know the number of times people visit a particular website a day. Data analysis answers where these people are coming from and how they got to know of the website. It’s about collecting data, analyzing, interpreting and visualizing it.
Business Development: Tech is a good business and every business needs a business developer. This includes boosting revenue, expanding the business, enhancing profitability through collaborative relationships, and making strategic business decisions.
There are several other skills in the tech industry that do not require coding. Don’t feel left out because you don’t code. Other tech skills are just as important as coding. As the tech world keeps evolving, more skills are being created. Find your strength, passion and implement it, there are enough skills to go around.
See you next time.
